Knock sensor explaination please?

Okay I see stuff about the knock sensor all the time and know it has something to do with timing I think??

1. What is it.

2. Why are people always upgrading it to the lt4. My Body said his car ran alot better after it, I have a 96 t/a and it runs fine as far as I know, but if this has not been replaced is it something I should do?

if you have lt's, or a bigger cam then they can set off more vibration and noise causing the knock sensor or module to pull timing to make up for it. the lt4 km wont be as sensitive to these things and wont pull the timing thus letting you keep more of your hard earned power.
