ls7 clutch shim

i'm having one installed and was wondering if any of you have used a shim? do i absolutely need to shim the slave or is it not needed?

mechanic said there is about a 1/2 inch difference in total height of the clutch/flywheel compared to stock.

i'm also having a new slave and master put in

The LS7 should be the same height as the stock clutch.

There is no shim needed. If you put one in, it will make the clutch pedal grab high. It will release right at the top of the travel, which you don't want.

When you first drive the car, the clutch will grab right at the bottom of the travel. This is normal, since the LS7 uses a self-adjusting pressure plate. As you drive and put miles on it, the pedal will gradually rise to the center point of the travel where it is supposed to be,

I'm gonna have to ask the mechanic to measure the height again since it should be the same.

I've never even once bothered to look. I've installed many of them and never had any issues except for the occasional need to bleed the clutch. Everyone has been like stated above just put it in and go.

The pressure plate is self adjusting, so that may have something to do with the height difference. Remember, its brand new and the pressure plate fingers have never even been compressed, as compared to your old one which is well worn.

Thank's Wesman, I actually did not know that. I was all ready to get an adj. master since my pedal was grabbing so low.... but the guru of the LS7 has come through for me!! :lol:
