Rearend questions

so i have a stock 10bolt with 2:73 gears out back, ya its great on gas but sucks at accelerating. so i was planning on putting 3:42's in it, but everyone says its pointless to rebuild the stock 10 bolts. so what all would i have to do to fit a 12 bolt in it?? Thanks

Do a Ford 9". Theyre super stong, and incredibly easy to work on. You can pop the third member out and build it on your work bench instead of trying to move the entire rear around.

what sort of suspension mods or anything would i have to make? or would it just bolt right in.

If the brackets are welded in the correct places it should just bolt right in without any problems.

you need to mess with your brake lines etc..and the parking brake bracket...you also need some axle work too..get them pressed..with that being said...just through some 3.73 in your 10 bolt and you'll be ok...there is no need to jump to a 1500-2500 dollar rear end yet if your stock..if your not and have enough money..then go to Midwest chassis fabrication and get one of their fabbed cases ..they are amazing and you can retain everything ...its damn near perfect

If you are stock or nearly stock, then the 10 bolt will work just fine for you. Cheapest way to go is finding a used 3.42 rearend at a junkyard or Ebay,etc. If you want a beefed up rear then you're most likely gonna wanna buy a rear end thats already made to bolt right in. Just google "9 inch f-body" or "12 bolt f-body" or something simular and you should come up with some nice (and kinda pricey) rearends.
Unless you are handy with welding and have a strong attention to detail, then you can build your own 9" inch rearend.

What the 2 above said. 10 bolts behind an auto trans will be fine up to 400 to 450 rear wheel hp as long as you are not on slicks and at the track every weekend Launching it on juice with a big stall. if your just on the streets on street tires with a mild built N/A motor it should be fine.
