Hey everyone
Just found out the funny sound coming from my 2001 Ws6 was the rear-end and it looks like it is blown. This sucks because when I get the car 2 years ago I had this funny sound and was told it was the rotors. I parked it for almost a year and just took it out and the sound is worst. So I need rebuild my rear so do I have a 10 bolt or 12 bolt in the rear? Also what type of gear should I go with since I am having the work done? I heard the 3.73 would really work my motor when I go over 70 or should I go with a 3.55. help

I know what you mean I though it was the larger tires making noise but when I hit 135 the rear gave out and the noise got 10 times worse. Chewed a few gears too. I had mine rebuilt but it's starting to make noise again. I do beat on my car a bit though. t's a toy and for me that's all it's for. If you plan on adding more power I'd get a better axle. You should have a 10bolt unless it was changed. I've heard a 3.73 is ok in an auto. I was planning on using it but I am changing my car to a 6spd and going with a 4.10. Oh and the 3.42 is a little easier on the mpg but still better than stock.

Hey RyanJM thanks for the help, after your rebuild your end was back to par how long it take you to blow it again? I am looking at spend over a G for the rebuild and the gear of my choice, I would hate to have the work done just to have to redo it in 2 or 3 years.

Hey guys just got back my WS6 today the rear was shot bearings went bad so I had some stuff replaced cost me 1023.26 plus I had new rear brakes put on and rear rotors shaved. it will cost me $410 (with gear cost) to change to a 3.73 is it worth it?

NOpe for $1k more you could have bought a brand new 9" and never had to worry about it again. Word of thumb when it it comes to a 10 bolt. replace DO NOT re build.

If you can do the work yourself and you want a gear change you can stick with the 10 bolt. Like Jay said, for a grand, go 9".
