how strong is the auto in the 2002 ss. i have an ss 27k on the odo and im installing a 150 shot this weekend. it have all the slp options so its running 8.2s in the 1/8 in stock form. I would like to install some slicks for the track. i only race a dozen times a year or so. will this combo break my tranny? what can i do to beef is up without a rebuild? thanks

if anything the rear will go before the tranns with the use of slicks.

a shiftkit from b & m or transgo to answer your question, but yes that 10 bolt does not like a lotta ponies.

what about reprogramming the computer to shift firmer. will this help. also does anyone have a link to the shift kit i should get.

I totally agree with the others. I have a 150 shot and a 3000 stall in mine and the trans has never been a problem but I did end up putting a Moser 12 bolt in recently as the stock rear ends can be a little weak. As far as where to get a shift kit, most every F-body performance shop has them. You can change shift firmness a little with like a Hypertech programmer or a little more with custom programming through LS1 Edit. Personally though I would install a shift kit.

I would recommend the TransGo shift kit. It does a lot more than the B&M kit and is most widely used. Raising the shift firmness (as with a HPP) only raises the line pressure, nothing more. And makes it rough during normal driving, which the TransGo does not do.
Just do a search on "TransGo" and "B&M shift kit". That should tell you all you want to know.
I put a STS on my car; the trans was slipping during shifts. The TransGo complety cured it and now it just hauls butt.
With slicks, however, your 10 bolt will probably let go after a while.
