What causes gear whine and is there a way to stop it?

where is it coming from? what speeds do you hear it? is it constant, increase with speed, or is it rpm related only.

It's coming from the rear. I hear it when I get around 40 mph. It's constant, speeds above 40 mph and I hear it even when I'm not accelerating.where is it coming from? what speeds do you hear it? is it constant, increase with speed, or is it rpm related only.

sounds like pinion or carrier bearing to me, not gear whine. might wanna look into a bearing rebuild. i have had to do my bearings multiple times in my car from bangin turns and road racin.

I had a lot of noise coming out of my rear axle the first garage tells me my hole axle needs to be replaced . then i went to my neibhor he works on race cars
he took my hole axle apart and everything looks brand new !!!! he changed the oil ... racing oil no more noise it's unbelievable no more grinding
i am very happy with the results !!!!!!

synthetic gear lube does wonders for rear axle components. it's 1000% better than conventional stuff.

If I'm understanding correctly, you had grinding coming from your gears and all you did was put racing oil in it and it stopped completely.
What type of rear end do you have?
