View Full Version : Help!: Need help with a noise

:tap:Hey, looking for some advise I have a 00 ws6 6 speed with some upgrades i will list at the end of the post. I am hearing a banging that a can feel in the floor. feels like the back half of the car. at first it felt like it was under my feet but motor and trans mount replacement didnt help. i've checked everything! i am an ase certified auto tech and work for a toyota dealer so its not like im clueless but this has me lost! any suggestions or someone with similar issues? please help!

2000 ws6 ta m6 Slp lid, comp cam 224/224 .585 114 lsa, long tubes w/ ory,slp loudmouth, ls7 clutch, fidanza flywheel, umi double adjustable lower control arms pand hard and tunnel mounted torque arm, Mickey Thompson 26x11.5r17 et streets.

Have you checked the torque arm mount that goes on the side of the trans?? Of that mount is worn/missing/broken, it will create the bang you are hearing.

Also check your u-joints for any looseness/play.

I take it you didnt do much research on the tunnel mounted torque arm before you bought it and Wesman didnt read LOL. They have issues with "banging" and being overall very loud as hell. Also the ORY might be smacking the floor. Both are EXTREMELY common issues.

lol the ory maybe the cause but the torque arm was added after the noise started i knew that would make noise, the lower control arms are way worst though they are double adjustable with hiem joints im thinking maybe diff. it has a big cam so sometimes it surges and thats when its the worse

Those are the first places I would check

Since you have a tunnel mounted torque arm it isnt mounted on the tranny, many with ORY problems switch to poly motor mounts and it cures that problem. u-joints.. definately replace them with lakewoods.

LOL if u joints or motor mounts were the problem i wouldn't have made a post. the car has all brand new prothane mounts and new u joints. thank you guys for taking the time to try to help though much appreciate

I figure ill just drive till whatever is making the noise breaks and falls out LOL then ill know what to replace. with the 26x11.50r17 Mickey Thompson et streets i just put on it shouldnt take long LOL
