hello, I had an new tci tranny installed in my trans am and the speed shop switched out my factory stall to one from a 01 vette. Is this better and what was the stock stall and what is the stall from an 01 vette. I have noticed it now needs more gas to leave from a dead stop and is not as touchy as the factory. Is this better? I dont drag the car but do drive it hard. It just seems like there is less power since it takes more gas to leave from a dead stop should I have them switch it back in the spring

thank you for the reply unfortuanately the car is put away for the winter only on road for 4 months:( but I did notice it is quick when nailed to the floor but than again it was hard to compare trannsmission wise cause it was pretty much toast before the new one but do you think its better with this higher stall than the factory one, the only thing I really can tell is that it seems like its slower cause you need to give it more gas to actually move compared to the stock one that you would just touch it and it jumped? thank you for all your help too and happy holidays

that was my thought too when mine was installed. i left the shop and it took more to move and felt slower. after i broke it in i cracked the throttle for a sec and thought wow. happy holidays to you too.

they told me about 40 lock up cycles. since i had an hour drive home he said it should be broke in by the time got home. i just took it easy on it for a couple days.

ive driven mine for a month after the new tranny and stall so I assume its broken in:) and they were hard miles.... is yours still the same from a dead stop just seems like there needs to be more throttle effort?

it depends on the stall speed. mine is 3500 and it doesnt really "start moving" till about 2500 rpm. it will climb there and stay there till it shifts to 4th then the rpms drop and the car moves a little easier. if i push the gas farther it will speed up faster but not that much. there was no change after the break in.

i have a tci 3000 stall. as with all stalls, it takes a little more gas to get the car moving, thats normal.
your car is faster with the stall, what stall speed is it?

lol, you can't put a stall in a standard transmission. if it has a stall, it's an auto

^^what he said. it's going to feel sluggish in normal driving, you only feel the kick when you floor it, but man it's a BIG difference. also, you might want to look into getting a transmission cooler, because a stall makes the transmission run hotter and high temps in an auto = death

i was under the impression that the c5 had same engine and tranny as the f-bodies(correct me if im wrong), which if they did the stock stall would be 1800 and no different whatsoever performance wise. if you can afford a stall though pick up a 3k+. not sure on brand yet but you can use the search to find out pretty easy.

the engine is the same, but the tranny is VERY different. it's actually mounted on the rear transaxle, and there's what they call a 'torque tube' that runs between it and the engine

plus better shift solinoids that can be used in ours trannies as an upgrade

mine is still all stock with all torque management deleted and zero shift times.
just have a tranny cooler and 2,800 stall.....i hope it lasts a long time:xfingers:

right now, that's the way mine is as well - everything you can do with a tune, lol.

what does it do when you delete the torque management?

i'm not 100% positive, but i THINK the torque management cuts back how much torque you put through the drivetrain (to protect you from breaking it). pretty sure that's what it is, and when you delete it, you're putting everything you can to the wheels. someone please correct me if i didn't get that entirely right, lol

it retards your timing to cut back on power to (lessen the strain) on the tranny and give less of a (bang) into next gear

how hard is it to turn off? Need that damn tuner huh....wonder how much my local guy would charge to do it......eh I want a new tune anyway...prob will just have it done then

when you get a tune, the tuner can 0 out the torque managment....or just buy hptuners and do it yourself while you play with everything else....if your like me it will show you just how much you dont know about car computers lol
